UK: Phillips Won't Be Cats' Football Coach Next Season

University of Kentucky Athletic Director Mitch Barnhart says he'll replace Joker Phillips as the Wildcats' football coach at season's end.

Barnhart made the announcement today in an open letter to fans, saying the search for a new coach will begin immediately.

Phillips will coach the Wildcats' final two games of the season against Samford and Tennessee.

Phillips is in his third season as UK's football coach. The former UK receiver worked his way up the coaching ranks, taking over when Rich Brooks retired three years ago.

After leading Kentucky to a 6-6 record and a bowl appearance his first season, Phillips' team finished 5-7 last year, and is 1-9 this season, including a 40-0 home blowout to Vanderbilt yesterday.
