Merck Foundation Ends Giving to Boy Scouts Over Gay Ban ...

December 11, 2012, 9:40 am

The charitable arm of pharmaceutical giant Merck has cut off contributions to the Boy Scouts of America, citing the national youth group?s policy barring acknowledged gays from its membership and staff, the Associated Press reports.

The Whitehouse Station, N.J.-based foundation, which last year gave $30,000 to the national Scouts and $10,000 to the Philadelphia-area Cradle of Liberty branch, said it will reconsider its decision if the Scouts amend the policy on sexual orientation.

The Boy Scouts of America reaffirmed the gay ban in July. Shipping firm UPS and computer chip maker Intel said last month that they would stop giving to the Scouts because of the policy.
