Martin Scorsese Will Direct an HBO Doc About President Bill Clinton

When he's not chatting about his passion for film restoration, or discussing the merits of film vs. digital presentation, Martin Scorsese is keeping extremely busy. Many of you know he has The Wolf of Wall Street with Leonardo DiCaprio set for release in 2013, he's producing a documentary based on film critic Roger Ebert's memoirs, executive producing "Boardwalk Empire," and lining up Silence and a reteam with Robert De Niro as upcoming projects. Now he's adding yet another film to his directing slate, as Scorsese will be behind the camera for a documentary based on the life of former President Bill Clinton for HBO.

A press release states that the documentary "will explore [Clinton's] perspectives on history, politics, culture and the world, with Scorsese producing and directing." This is certainly new territory for Scorsese, who has mostly shied away from being overtly political in his film work thus far, but it should be a cool opportunity to hear a President who led the country through one of our greatest economic times in recent memory as he reflects on what he did to make that happen. In light of our current economic climate, perhaps we can actually learn a thing or two as well as being entertained, since - even if you don't like the guy - you have to admit that Clinton is an charismatic personality. No word yet on when filming begins, but chances are good we could see this one by the end of 2013.
