NM College students get last chance to convince HC

The Bombay high court on Monday gave two students from Vile Parle-based NM College a last chance to bring before it any rule which would make the court grant them relief by directing the college to hold additional exams for them. The students were debarred from appearing for the second semester exam for having less than 75% attendance.

The two girls, Priyanka Shangvi and Smruti Bhayani, were debarred by the college in an order dated March 20. In their plea, the students have prayed for directions to the college to hold additional exams for them so that they don?t lose out on an entire academic year.

Shangvi and Bhayani took admission in the college for a BCom in 2012. In addition, both girls had enrolled themselves in courses outside college. Moreover, they say that during the academic year, they fell ill, which prevented them from attending lectures in college.

The college opposed the plea by saying that it was ?not possible and permissible to hold additional exams.?

To this, the bench of justices S Vazifdar and MS Sonak said, ?If you show us? case by Wednesday, we will be able to decide whether to grant relief or not.?
