PST: Barca reportedly eyes Thiago Silva

On the heels of their 7-0 dumping out of the Champions League by eventual champions Bayern Munich, Barcelona are looking to revamp their defense.

So why not start at the top?

According to Spanish media outlet Sport.es, the Catalan club has targeted Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva as the man for the job.

The Brazilian didn?t have the best match on Saturday against Italy, but he led a defense at Parc-de-Princes that conceded just 23 goals in 38 matches.

With little consistency in the middle of Barca?s back line, Silva would be a sensible buy for the La Liga champions.

Captain Carlos Puyol, at 35 years old, made just 12 starts in the league last year due to injuries and inconsistencies. Javier Mascherano and Gerard Pique both split time at the back, leaving a few question marks about its future.

According to Sport.es, Barcelona manager Tito Vilanova would consider Silva as an immediate starter in the squad, ahead of Mascherano, Pique, Puyol, and youngster Marc Bartra.? The article says Vilanova attempted to snatch the Brazilian last summer, but he chose PSG over Barca in a move from A.C. Milan, and was instantly made captain.

Sport.es mentions other candidates for Vilanova as Arsenal?s Laurent Koscelny and Chelsea?s David Luiz, but says Thiago Silva is by far leading the list.
